Replacing ONE tpms

So went to a shop for a slow leak, they said it's from my tpms and replaced it, but the blinking came on so I guess it's not programmed correctly. They took it out and put a rubber stem in and told me to go to the dealership. I know lots of people have had problem with local shops programming tpms, but is it for single tpms or a new (snow) set? Should I bother trying another local shop (others on the phone say they can do it) or should I just go to the dealership and spend the $300. I am not savy enough to do the relearn etc myself. I just want it to work and keep working without continuing to relearn it.

Basically, local shops possible to replace SINGLE tpms in your experience?

The re-learn is super easy if you have access to be able to air your tires back up afterward. I do it at the gas station and it only takes a couple minutes.

Question is would be ok to replace with a single one sensor from the local shops though?

Yes, as long as they are compatible. I got one from discount tire. I did have to go back after about 15 miles. Seems to be a common thing to get it initiated twice for unknown reason.

My sensor cracked and came off inside the tire after I had new tires installed. I bought a used sensor from a Dodge on Ebay and installed it myself. I put 50+ lbs in each tire then set the car into reset & learn mode and went to each tire and let about 10 lbs out .... and volia! The sensors where learned the first time and have never given me a problem since. That was 2+ years ago.

Did they say the sensor it's self was leaking or was it just the valve stem or gasket? I had to replace all my valve stems because they broke...western new York isn't very friendly in winter. But I purchased just the replacement stems from advanced auto direct oem fit. Just had to take tire off let enough air out to be able to pry a little to expose the sensor and get it out then swap out stem and put back in etc. So may wanna see if they still have that sensor if it was not the cause of the leak which I have a feeling it wasn't.

Also this relearn process everyone talks about are you saying you just have to start off having to much or to little air to trigger the tpms and then do relearn process and it will take in the new sensors without needing a tool?

You just have to let enough air out to trigger the sensors, about 5 lbs or so. It's not necessary to overfill the tires first, that was just redmed's process.

Interesting so if I bought 4 steels for snow season and included set of 4 tpms sensors to.come with it dismount summer tires and mount the steels with brand new sensors I just have to under inflate the tire and put it in relearn mode and it will detect them?

No. You have to put it in re-learn mode, then release air from the tire. The pressure drop it what triggers the sensors. There is a big topic on it in the DIY section.
