I just noticed that my 2011 kizashi has a very large hole that allows access from under the spare tire to the ground outside. From the photos it looks like someone tried to fix this and it fell off. I have no idea what was there and how to fix this. Does anyone have a clue?

Your car had been hit and repaired...and, not very well. Presumably prior to your purchase of it?

Yeah, it definitely looks like your car sustained some damage and a shoddy repair job (not professional) was made to cover it up. I think the panel that was screwed on has since fell off and that's why the hole is exposed and why you see the smaller screw holes all around the big hole.
The damage could have been from an accident from the rear, but given that the back portion of the chassis is straighter than the trunk portion, I'm thinking maybe the car high-centered on an object or was dropped/lowered on something after being lifted by jacks or a lift. Regardless, this is considerable damage that is exposing your trunk to the elements and will likely cause oxidation issues.

Who did you buy the car from? If it's from a dealer that offered a Carfax report, check the report to see if there was any indication of an accident. Was this car listed as a "clean title" with no accident history? If you purchased the car recently, you may have warranty coverage or a guarantee claim from the dealer, Carfax, or something.

As for repairing it, you can either take it to a body shop to get it properly repaired for a considerable amount of money or if the goal is to simply seal the hole, then use a foam sealant to fill the gaps. The foam will not only form a weatherproof seal but will also block out the road noise that is certainly entering the car from the hole. You can sand down and even paint over the foam. It's not the best solution but a DIY one if you simply want to just seal the holes and the damage isn't posing an issue to the normal operation of the vehicle. I'd also recommend painting over everything after the repair to prevent rust.
