Power cut during hard acceleration

Anything related to the Kizashi can go here, but please look at the other headings first. Your topic may fit better under something else.

It doesn't feel like that to me though- it's a quite noticeable hesitation when it happens. It's like some decent power starts developing and then something decides to halt everything. After the noticeable decline in momentum it doesn't seem to regain the same urgency.

PS: I couldn't get it to happen a bit earlier in 2nd gear up to 60km/h.

PPS: The common thing is two manuals and both Australian Kizashis - could be something to do with the ECU tune used here? Given the weather here (Summer) the A/C would most likely have been on each time it's happened to me.
Yeah quite possible. I'll do some more testing before Friday then will have a chat with the Suzuki tech's, will see what they say and will report here :)

Thanks. Mine will be going in soon so I'll mention it too.

I'll try and remember to hook up my hand held OBDII scanner and see if there's anything logged too.

I have got a laptop ELM327 interface type scanner as well which could be useful (if I can find some decent logging software) to give sensor data, ignition advance curve etc.

After seeing this thread, I tried putting my foot real hard on my Kizashi (of course not getting the rev above red line). I didn't have this problem.

But then my Kizashi is a MY11 Kizashi (not the XL or XLS model but the "Prestige"model) and it is a CVT.

Hope this helps.

Thanks. I think it would only show up with the manual transmission - or possibly with the CVT in manual mode? I don't know as I haven't been in a CVT Kizashi to see how the trans behaves under full throttle (with regards to engine revs?)

Okay, here's the result:

I had a chat with the service advisor (also former mechanic) and he said they hooked it up to the OBDII which came back clean (no stored codes, everything is fine). He didn't really say much about it except it's all normal but no explanation on why (kind of disappointing when you ask service advisers more technical questions and they look at you as if you're speaking in a different language).

Anyway, I did some more testing of my own and discovered that the power surge interruption only occurs when the A/C is on. I tested it twice on the same straight, level stretch of road (at 25 degrees C); when the A/C was off, the power surge was linear and uninterrupted. As soon as the A/C was back on, the power interruption occurs around 5,250rpm.

So now we know the culprit for the power surge interruption, it's the A/C.

Happy motoring folks :)

Interesting. I did forget to state that I was not using the A/C when I tested my car. After all, it is winter here in Maryland, USA. I know that for you guys in Australia, it's summer right now so A/C usage would be normal.
I will take note when I try with my A/C on.

I was out this morning so did some testing. First time (2nd gear with A/C on, level road) nothing, second time it did hesitate a bit- but I've had it do it a lot worse on hills and I thought at lower revs? The revs were in the same region mentioned above ~5300RPM.

I also had trouble starting it once this morning - I did the usual clutch in and a quick push of the start button. It cranked but didn't fire up cleanly and was running very slowly with numerous warning lights on til it stalled. Tried again and it barely cranked over and the warning lights stayed on... so I thought the battery had died! Third time, I held the starter button in and it fired and started. I've never had that before.

Hmmm it's never good when the dashboard lights up like x-mas tree with warning lights. Battery shouldn't die that quick...how old is your car? 1 year? Might want to run the diagnostics to see if there are any stored codes...

2011 build purchased new around 7 months ago. It's got me wondering if this is related http://www.kizashiclub.com/forum/viewto ... =12&t=1178 ( only USA models are listed- but it is a USA only TSB, not worldwide.)

No codes stored - but that's checking using a generic OBDII reader. I'm sure the genuine Suzuki tool would check a lot more things, so it wouldn't surprise me if there could still be a fault logged. The ECU software is 33980-57L5 Version 00001, it's not listed on that USA TSB.
