Check out the new VW Golf. Luxurious interior for the price, kind of like our Kizashis. Since you drive a lot, get the TDI manual. You can get close to 600 miles on just 13 gallons. My other car is a 2013 Passat TDI DSG. I got 800 miles out of 18 gallons a couple of times. Don't get the DSG since it costs $300-$400 every 40K to service the transmission.

Since I live in a snow belt FWD cars are out.
Since I'm in the car business I recognize the fragile nature (and oh-so-suspect) reliability of Volkswagen products.
Since driving to me is never ruled by the dollar --it still matters-- gas mileage is not a critical issue.
Since I need a left hip replacement manuals are unusable.

And diesel fuel stinks.
And I ain't peein' in the tank.
And the dealers here suck.

I'd buy a used Kizashi first.......

Or a new BMW 320 XDrive; I mean, we sell them here.

If the Impreza/WRX is out then maybe the Legacy?
Not nearly as fast, but more like the Kizashi.

You need to carry disposable gloves when you refuel, otherwise you end up with oily stinky hands. :x

I don't think it's as bad as people make it sound. Got a VW Jetta TDI (diesel) in the family fleet that I've driven a lot. Never spilled diesel while pumping and don't think it really stinks more than gasoline/petrol. The US doesn't offer gloves to wear while pumping like I've heard they have in Europe. From my experience, you don't need it.

If anything, the setback to diesels are their rough and noisy idles. However, when you get better city fuel economy than most comparable cars get on the highway, you don't really care.

I'm down with diesel, but rather not have a VW and very few other makes offer diesel engines in affordable passenger cars. Now if Jeep wants to put a 4 cylinder diesel with a MT in a Wrangler with 4x4...

This speaks volumes about the Kizashi. It'll be a tough car to replace

I get in different cars every day (our dealership sells Honda, Mini, Mercedes, and BMW).
The Kizashi is proving difficult to match with anything under $30K.
