i want to share with ya a deal that was offered to me the other day.

So im at a car meet and some guy comes pull up to my Kizashi and we start talking about it. He was telling me how Suzuki is no longer in the USA. This guy happens to be a salesmen for Mitsubishi.. Since the the value of the Kizashi when it leaves the dealer drops by thousands of dollars, he offered me this deal.. He would give me $10,000 for my car and the remaining $10,000 i have left he will carry it over onto the new 2014 Evo 10!!.

Im more of a evo 7-9 lover but an Evo is an Evo. Comes boosted, racing seats, stick shift and almost twice the HP of a Kizashi... Think this is a good deal?? only bad thing is i would go another 5 years now with a car payment.. but i also see now that the Kizashi is considered rare because USA no longer has it.. Their are pros and cons here, i want to make the right move

I've never been in the world of car payments (I 100% own my Kizashi), but what I'm getting here is that you owe about 10K on the Kizashi. The Mitsu dealer offered you 10K trade-in, a transfer of your 10K debt from the Kizashi to the Evo (what happens to current interest rates?) and then you owe the remaining 15K to 20K on the Evo.
Not sure how this is a good deal. All it seems is that he offered a 10K trade-in for your Kizashi.

I'm a fan of the Evo and in some regards, I think it's better than the WRX STI. That being said, it's a lot of money because it's a high performance car. The base Evo starts at 35K so even if you go with a base Evo, you still owe nearly 25K.

Financially, this would be an ill-advised move as you are closer to owning the Kizashi and would probably pay less in every regard (interest, insurance, and operating costs).
However, the Evo is a true performance car and one that has an abundance of performance mods and support which is contrary to the Kizashi.

I really don't see the awesome deal here, but if you really want a performance car, the Evo is a world of difference from the Kizashi. However, I often hear that it's hard to live with on a daily basis due to the unforgiving ride from the firm suspension and the frenetic power. Fuel economy is also dismal due to the high boost turbo and AWD system. The manual even only has 5 gears. I've seen people sell them because they couldn't afford it as a commuter car.
You'll also lose the quietness, refinement, and comfort of the Kizashi for the raw brute power of the Evo. You need to consider whether losing all of these and paying way more is worth the power, performance, and modding capabilities.

Also, not sure if you heard yet, but Mitsubishi announced recently that they are discontinuing the Evo. This means that the X is the last one for a while. They are restructuring themselves in America as a primarily SUV and CUV maker and will integrate PHEV technology in them.
Mitsubishi is struggling, but still planning to stay in the US market. Regardless, dealer and aftermarket support would be much better than Suzuki.

It boils down to how much you are willing to pay for performance. If tens of thousands of dollars for a greater number of years is worth it, then the Evo is the car for you over the Kizashi.
Personally, I'd keep the Kizashi. If I was to move on for more power, I'd get a new Subaru WRX instead of expensive brutes like the STI or Evo. The Evo is also long in the tooth. The X has been out since 2007 and the fact that a 35K car still has only 5 gears shows its age.

Yeah i hear you bro.. Im really thinkin about keeping it myself.. I put alot of work into it already and im only 3 years away from paying it off. Dont wanna add another 5-6 years of payments.. I might as well throw that money into the motor and built it from there. And he told their discounting the Evo. I always had eyes for the evo 8 or 9, so if i ever have money and want a fast car i would just buy it.. keep the kizashi as a daily driver or show car for music.

Yeah, it's just that there is such a steep difference in price. Same for the performance, but that's the Evo's only card against the Kizashi; Hardcore performance. Otherwise, you're paying tens of thousands more for what is essentially an economy car called the Lancer amped up on steroids. Cars like the Evo don't offer performance and refinement like say an Audi S4. They are all about performance and compromise refinement for it, but cost tens of thousands less than cars like the S4.

The deal would be a different story say if the Evo was used or heavily discounted to where passing this up would be very hard. However, from what you initially wrote, I didn't see a good incentive to ditch the Kizashi for a brand new Evo.

Keep that Kizashi and all your friends(MONEY) will be so happy.

You know what's interesting to think about--how much will that $20k Evo be next year since it will be discontinued without support?

The performance community will still enjoy the car, but I'm guessing the overall market will dump the car--just like the Kizashi. And that would be a choice time to make a move if any. The Kizashi has already taken the drop--the Evo hasn't. I'd wait for that and then see if it's only a 4-5k difference. But you have to remember all the tricks played with payments. I'm like KuroNekko and have only bought cars cash, so I know payments could make a good deal go south really quick depending on the terms.

all coolness of the Evo aside, why spend 20K more for the performance aspect when you can by a brand new Lancer GTS and do some basic suspension mods and have a fun enough car? I know it wouldn't be AWD or do 0-60 in under 6 seconds, but you can only do 65 mph on the interstate anyway. I would guess that 75% of all Evos on the road right now will never see any kind of track or ralley time EVER in their running lives. They are stupid expensive in every meaning of the term and really hard to live with on a daily basis. We had one on a lot where I live for almost a year and the dealer finally discounted it so much he practically gave it away because any and all customers that could afford to own it were 30 something professionals that were jarred half to death by the ride qualilty during the test drive and moved on to buy something else.

I love an Evo as much as the next guy. They really are techno masterpieces and probably one of the top five most influential cars of our time. However, it's a lot like being a polygamist. All your friends would be really jealous and you'd be surely be the talk of the town, but who would want to live with the day-to-day expense, responsibility, and "maintainence" of being married to 5 different women?

I agree with Kuro (as I do most of the time) that a base WRX would cost low $20's. A Lancer GTS, mid-to-high teens. Either way, you'd have a good, fun base for modding that wouldn't eat you alive in daily maintainence costs and insurance, premium fuel, etc... Plus, you know having that much power on a daily basis would eventually lead to some hefty traffic related fines somewhere. We all do it, so don't deny it! LOL

But in the end, it's your money, so enjoy it! Good luck!

Really bad financial decision to roll the ten grand left on the Kizashi into the Evo loan. Dealers offer this because people are financially reckless enough to do it. If you are reckless enough to do it, get gap insurance because you'll lose your shirt if you totaled the Evo anytime soon after getting it. Never finance a depreciating asset if you can avoid it much less finance two depreciating assets as one especially if you don't even possess one of them. Just my two cents.
