IIHS PICKS THE KIZASHI FOR TEENAGERS

There were a lot of cars they chose!

There's one interesting quote:

Bigger, heavier vehicles protect better in a crash. There are no minicars or small cars on the recommended list.

I'd much rather a teen driver in a smallish 5 star vehicle than larger/ heavier 4 star vehicle (with quite likely worse handling and braking....) It could help them avoid an accident in the first place!

Then they include the 2006-7 Audi A3 - surely that's a small car?

A teenager in the UK driving a Kizashi would expect to pay in the region of about £5000 insurance ($7500). A small car such as the I10 would be about £2000

I don't know about the states, but car insurance for teenagers is massive here, due to the amount of accidents they have. Personally I wouldn't allow kids to drive until they are at least 21. Perhaps kids in the US are a little more sensible, but here they are idiots.

This list is choked full of bullshit.

First of all, how is a Dodge Avenger worth twice as much as a Kizashi? You'd have to be a bumbling crackhead to think an Avenger of the same MY is worth twice as much as a Kizashi in the same condition.

Also, they ranked the Kizashi as a "Good Choice" while the Camry and Jetta are ranked as "Best Choice". This would imply the Camry and Jetta are safer... but they're not and even IIHS themselves have declared so. The current generation Camry and Jetta score a "Poor" rating on the IIHS "small overlap" crash test while the Kizashi was among only two cars in this class to score the highest rating of "Good".

In fact, Autoblog featured an article on the Camry and Jetta's poor results and their data was straight from IIHS.

There is really nothing safer about the Camry or Jetta in terms of crash test results. The Kizashi did well not only in the stringent "small overlap" test, but all others too.

Now let's talk about All Wheel Drive. AWD helps with traction. Doesn't take a genius to figure AWD adds a level of safety in slippery road conditions like snow.
The Kizashi offers AWD.
The Camry? Nope.
The Jetta? Nope.

Despite all this, IIHS is now saying that the same generation Camry and Jetta that they found worrisome in their stringent crash tests are safer cars than the Kizashi that outperformed them in the same crash tests. WTF? Check the model years recommended with the crash test cars. These "Poor" cars are ranked higher than the "Good" Kizashi in this "Top Pick for Teenagers List".


Honestly, who writes this shit? They can't even make a valid list despite they're the ones generating the crash test data.

Arlington, VA (where IIHS is based) is only a bridge away from me in DC. I may need to go over there and slap some fools.

It's one thing to make a wrong statement based on someone else's data. When you make misrepresented or erroneous statements that contradict your very own data, then you're just an idiot or a shill full of bias. Neither deserve to be trusted by the public.

Well consider the irony in how IIHS trumpets themselves as the authority on automotive safety in America yet just recommended less safe cars as "Best Choice" for teenage drivers who need the safest cars due to the lack of skill and experience.

I've posted on how poorly the Camry did in the small overlap test compared to the Kizashi. The buckling of the Camry's A-pillar could result in severe head and leg injuries for the driver. Isn't this something that should be a concern for a "Best Choice" car recommended for a teenager? Apparently not as IIHS recommended some of the worst performing cars as "Best Choice" in this list while putting safer cars like the Kizashi lower in recommendation. This really calls to question their credibility.
