So, the Discount Tires Guy says that the warranty on the WRG3's is voided if you don't provide documentation that you took the tires off in the summer time. My wife and I just found out she's pregnant with our first kid, so I want to make my Kizashi as safe as possible for driving in the winter. I'm still going to get the WRG3's, but at least I'll have more time to figure out if I want to change them out when summer comes around.

I might be mistaken but that is wrong. WRG3 is an all weather tire marketed to be driven in all seasons. 800-565-2525 is the number to Nokian.

I just spoke with Renee at Nokian and she confirmed that the discount tire rep is wrong. Its an all weather tire meant to be used all year around. You can also speak with Matt in the warranty dept of Nokian.

Whoa, those Nokian all weather tires are awesome! They're the perfect tire for regions with mild winters (like mine). I'll have to keep them in mind when I'm due for new tires

How did this “all season” tire make it all the way to the number 2 spot? The WRG3 roots are traced back to a high speed high performance winter tire designed for the high speed roads of Europe. After several revisions this tire made it to the USA as a four season tire. Don’t be fooled by its 4 season moniker, the WR G3's tread compound and design help it outperform all but a few winter tires in the world. There is a reason this tire is our best selling tire--this is the safest all season tire for any vehicle--period. Winter, our seemingly longest and most demanding season for tires, is when the WRG3 shines the brightest. The WRG3 offers excellent control and handling on all driving surfaces, wet, dry, snow-covered and clear. In 2013 Consumer Reports the WRG3 was the #1 rated performance winter tire and for once the European winter tires test agree and also rate the WRG3 at the top of the performance winter tire segment. To be clear the Nokian WR G3 is a performance all season/winter tire. It cannot outperform the high end dedicated winter-only tires, but if you are looking for one tire year round THIS IS.

I'm pretty much sold on the WRG3s for my "mundane" cars, including the Kizashi. They cost about 40% more than my preferred all seasons but they are well worth the premium.

I'd like to know more about their summer and dry performance before considering them on my GTI

I talked with Matt in the warranty dept. at Nokian and he straightened me out on all the qualms that the Discount Tires guys kept bringing up. The WR G3's are a winter-rated All-Season tire. You get exceptional winter performance without sacrificing the convenience of a traditional all-season tire. There's a 55,000 mile warranty on the tires, and they will pro-rate the cost of your new tires based on a ratio of how many miles you drove on the tires to the mileage of the warranty. So if you wear the tread your set of WR G3's down to 2/32 of an inch in say 45,000 miles, you only had the tires for about 80% of their advertised life span. So they will compensate you for 20% the cost of a new set of tires, as long as you wore the tires out evenly over their lifetimes. So be sure to rotate your tires in regular intervals, and make sure the alignment on your Kizashi stays tuned up.

While I was talking with Matt, he said that Discount Tire is a pretty new seller of Nokian Tires, so the Discount Tire techs might not be familiar with all of Nokian's products. Matt also mentioned that usually, their clients are smaller retailers confined to a limited region and that Nokian typically gives those clients some sort of overview of their products. Because Discount Tire is a newer partner and nationwide chain with over 900 locations, it's a little harder to make sure that they are all up to speed (pun intended).

I'm not sure what the deal is, but Discount Tires is having a lot of trouble getting me a set of WR G3's. Last week, they Discount Tires guy said that they could order the tires from someplace in Iowa. I was wishy washy at the time, and didn't place the order, because the Discount Tires guy kept feeding me all this stuff that wasn't true and confusing the hell out of me. When I called them a couple days later, I got a different guy who said they'd get back to me when they could get the order in. They never got back to me, and when I called them back, I got a third guy who said he'd get back to me when he figures out what the other two guys were doing about my request. As of the time of this writing, he has NOT gotten back to me yet.

There are 2 Discount Tire locations in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan Area. The one I was speaking with initially was the Belton, MO location. So I decided to switch gears and call the other Discount Tire location in Gladstone, MO a few blocks away from where I originally purchased Azumi. Kirk at the second location said he'd look into ordering me some WR G3's. I told myself I was going to call him back in an hour to get a sit rep, but I got distracted by work stuff. He ended up calling me about and hour and half later anyways, it turned out. Unfortunately, all he had to report was that he was having trouble acquiring a set of WR G3's because Nokian only lets "approved distributors" retail the WR G3's, and he was having trouble finding one of those. So Kirk told me he'd do a little research into some of Nokian's other products and see what he could find out about those. I don't know what that means, or where he's looking, but at least he called me back to let me know how it was going and at least he's getting familiar with Nokian's products.

I don't know if it's just all the WR G3's in the US were purchased in the last week, or if Discount Tires has the worst inventory acquisition system ever. It's a little frustrating though, because it's looking like it's going to another week before I can change the tires out on my Kizashi. I also found out from my interaction with Kirk, that Discount Tires does not do alignments, and my Kizashi's alignment needs a slight tune up. He tried to give me the name of a local mechanic shop franchise that does and they would give me a slight discount on the alignment if I purchased a set of Discount Tires. Trouble is there are several of those shops in KC, and he didn't specify which one would afford the discount.

So yeah, it's a week later, and I don't even have an order in yet. I'm going to restart my search and see if I can find anyone else in KC that'll have them in stock. I might even have to call Nokian back and get this squared away at the source.

I've always had excellent service from them, but I've never used an actual store, always dealt with Discount Tire Direct.

Yeah, I've never used them before and I tried Discount Tires Direct but they don't have any WR G3's either. So I'll try and get an update from someone sometime today.
