After the range on your HUD goes to --- how far can you go?

Just got to the --- on range today for the first time. I didn't chance it. It was only my 3rd tank of gas. It told me 15 miles right before it clicked to ---, and I pulled in a couple of miles later to refuel. I'm one to push the limit in my car "just so I know." My wife loves to give me a hard time about it. She'll barely let hers go below a half tank before refueling. Next time I might push it towards 40 miles if you got 38 out of yours!

I recently filled up as soon as the HUD went blank, and I was only able to put in 13.7 gallons into a 16.6 gallon tank. On that basis, I would estimate that I'd have between 60 to 75 miles still available, but I HATE pushing my car into the gas pumps.

Tiger- exactly my thoughts...I've gone almost 40mi and still never pumped 15 gallons into the tank (the most I've pumped in was 14.6) so I am thinking I can go about 70 safely, but I wondered what others have seen.

Maybe we should have a challenge. Whoever can go the farthest wins. If you sputter to a stop and have to push your car you lose.

I love that episode....it's actually worth it to me to have a gas can in the car and run it out just so I know. If I get a chance I'll do it and let you know...

I recently put in 12.9 which was the most I've put in. The gauge seems to read way lower than I actually am.

CCS, how many gallons did you fill up? I went about that much last week and filled up 15.7 gallons after 3 clicks.

I don't click the pump, I'll try that next time... I went 38 miles.

sorry you asked how much I pumped not drove... I pumped about 14.6 gal.
