Good to hear. I hope they covered everything and didn't charge you a penny.

I don't have a place to work on my car either. I did all my tpms work inside our parking garage or while filling gas at a gas station. It's actually one of the few systems on the car that's don't really require space, just patience.

This is the song that never ends. TPMS related issues are really getting me frustrated.

Now my valve stems are corroding and leaking! One of them completely snapped off around the threading taking the needle core with it two months ago. I have another one which is leaking where the valve stem bolts in. I see another one is also getting corroded.

Any suggestions for replacement stems that will not corrode as easily? One of them is only a year old! I cannot believe how much of a PITA this is.

Another valve stem has snapped off at the threads taking the needle core with it. I know where this is going, and it's not good. It's just a matter of time before the 4th one does it.

Amazon says this is compatible with the Kizashi, but I'm hesitant. Doe anyone know of any plastic/rubber valve stems like this that will work?

edit: a Schrader rep said that the 28308 model is compatible with the 2011 Kizashi. I'm going to give these a try and hopefully that will be the end of this nonsense.

I would simply get the replacement stems by Siemens/VDO. They're only about $11/ea from what I remember.

But they should not corrode in the first place. The metals used don't corrode easily. I'd just put a good coat of automotive wax on them before you install the new ones and see if that helps.

As far as snapping off, that could be the result of too much installation torque. The usual tire monkeys mounting and dismounting tires don't have the delicacy to put only 8 in-lbs of torque to tighten these things. And if too much torque is used, you can definitely run into an issue with the structure of the stem being compromised and later failing. I wouldn't let whoever installed these install the next set for sure. I'd look up a tire rack certified installer that does tpms work. I did that and haven't had any issues.

You could replace your factory sensors with these, but I'm not sure if they will mimic the factory sensor to the ecu. You will definitely have to relearn the sensors to the car.

And this is new territory on the factory TPMS as I never researched non-factory style sensors. But if you want to try it, I'll help however I can. 8-)

They were snapping off where the cap screws on, just deep enough take the needle with it. Like this, (not my picture but exactly what has happened to 3 of my stems) http://i633.photobucket.com/albums/uu59 ... 0757-1.jpg

So I ordered the Schrader 28308 model TPMS sensor. Shop got it installed but still can't get the car in learning mode to see if the car would take the aftermarket sensor. I drove home and did the air release trick after putting the car in learning mode and voilà-my Kizashi took it like a normal factory sensor and the TPMS service light is gone! $38 for the sensor shipped from amazon, $15 service charge to install it in the tire at my local shop. So for ~$53 a tire I can finally be rid of this nonsense. Not cheap but man am I relieved.

And I agree, these metals should not corrode! I do not know how else to explain it. But it has happened 3 times on 3 separate wheels. But I do not foresee this being a problem with the plastic/rubber covered valve stems.

TPMS finds yet another way to be a pain in the ass. I'm going to lube my valve stems out of paranoia

Glad you got it sorted and confirmed a rubber stemmed TPMS sensors for our car. 8-) Another piece of info for us trying to get around TPMS hell.

The picture you show is classic overtorque when installing the valve in the stem. There's no other reason why it should have failed at that particular point in the stem. I'd go back to the place that did the work and make them pay for the rebuild kits so you can have someone else rebuild your original sensors. And then it's your choice to keep them or sell them.

I agree with SamirD the average tire monkey tightens the valve stem too tight for these aluminum stems. It happened to me. I brought the tire home and installed it on my car. The next morning the tire was flat without driving on it at all. I discovered that the stem was cracked right at the valve. Autozone sells a new stem for a couple bucks and a gasket kit ( includes a gasket, valve, stem nut and stem cap)for another 2 bucks.
