Really poor gas mileage
What sort of revs does the CVT transmission do at around 60km/h (approx 40m/h)? I can drive my manual in fifth at around 1400-1500RPM and get really good economy. The engine is happy to do those revs. I was wondering if the CVT perhaps has the engine revving higher which would mean more fuel consumption?

Not really as I am okay with the fuel economy of my vehicle burning regular. It is just that some members claim better fuel efficiency burning premium (higher octane) fuel so I was curious about it.krellmk wrote:Kuro..are contemplating using higher octane ?

Just wanted to make a quick point...I have noticed that lately I have been getting better mileage. No a change in type of fuel...
Two things have changed:
1. My car has recently hit 5,000 miles. I am at about 5,300 - not sure if that is signifant or not
2. The weather has warmed up...I think the warmer weather definitely provides better mileage. I noticed this on my Mazda 3 as well...when the weather was consistently over 30 degrees and even warmer I got about 2-3 MPG better.
Just thought I would throw that out there...

Here in Slovakia, there are 2 options you can buy:
1.) FWD manual -- 1475kg
2.) AWD CVT -- 1580kg
notice the difference in weight, apart from FWD-AWD and manual-CVT, there is no difference. So with CVT the car is >100kg heavier, thats almost 2 people.
This will have impact on economy.

Totally agree with KuroNekko, driving style is the most important, my CVT kizzy is about 3,000km, I am living in the city and seldom use highway, my gas mileage is about 10.6L/100km.

Alright I am now at 13 000 km and the gas mileage is still not good at all... I am now getting about 17 MPG since it's summer I guess... it's a little bit better than 14-15 MPG, but that is ridiculous. I've noticed that when I am driving 50 km/h and I switch it to the manual mode..it's in 6th gear... is that possible? Is this normal? When I am driving in manual mode...you can't go over the 4th gear at 50 km/h. Maybe that is why my gas mileage is bad .. Could someone else let me know if it's the same in their Kizashi? I have a 2012 Kizashi Sport (Canada) AWD CVT
Thanks in advance!
PS I have a maintenance appointment next month so I will ask them to do the fuel test.

FrankoLaMoya, I suggest you try Shell V-power once. Make sure you get the canadian V-power. The American Shell V-power has 10% ethanol. I have a canadian kizashi too and I do notice a big improvement from using ethanol free fuel.
