So I removed my SRI and put my stock airbox back on about a week and a half ago. I had been unimpressed with my gas mileage considering I also had the piggyback installed and wondered if the SRI might be the reason my mileage hadn't increased. I think it was. Only two tanks of gas to report but I've gone from high 25's and mid-26's to a high 29 and a low 30 mpg. Exact same driving patterns and routes. Also, I really believe that the car is slightly more responsive off the line withOUT the SRI. And an additional bonus is that the exhaust note has been slightly subdued and I think it sounds perfect now. I really think that I've got the car right where I want it (subpar CVT performance the always present caveat) with the cat-back exhaust, pulley and piggy. When I jump on the throttle I can 100% feel that the SRI is no longer on the vehicle, so it defintely works. But it works at a point in the powerband that I don't think justifies the loss of mpg.

Just some interesting findings that I thought some of the folks on the forum might find interesting.

To call it a paperweight is a bit harsh and certainly inaccurate. I know that the SRI is not on my car anymore and I miss it at that very moment when I really get on the throttle. I think the reality is that people expect something out of it that they're not going to get. Because I am on the freeway so much I would entertain the thought of putting it back on because the difference is so noticeable, but not with the current price of gas. I think for most people the piggyback is the way to go, but that all depends on how much $400 means to each individual.

you have hills in SF right? Is that Hwy mileage? I get 19-20.5 mpg STEADY! I still have yet to take a HWY trip. I would LOVE to see 23 or 25mpg for my local driving...and I drive fairly slow!

It's about 80/20 highway to city. I drive the sunol grade everyday so I'd really like to see what kind of mileage I'd get with a flat commute. Unfortunately, 19 - 20.5 sounds pretty standard for city driving.
