Re: Whinning Noise - CVT?
Their answer to these cvt problems seems to be replace the transmission without bothering to find out whats actually causing them to fail.

Re: Electric car sales...
I think it's about the cost as much as anything. In Australia we get no financial subsidy to buy green vehicles so at present we're paying heaps more for vehicles with new mostly unproven technology, unknown reliability and poor resale value. Eventually as oil prices go up green vehicles will become...

Re: CVT- Kizashi's Achilles Heel
I've never driven a a Civic but from memory the early ones were a popular car in Australia. I think the Japanese were very good at making cars user friendly.

Re: CVT- Kizashi's Achilles Heel
To be fair, most early Asian made front wheel drives were shocking vehicles (handling wise.) From memory the first fwd car I drove was my sister's Renault 12 which compared to my rwd Fiat I owned at the time felt strange and not impressive. The first fwd car that I owned wasn't until late 2000 when...

Re: CVT- Kizashi's Achilles Heel
I think part of the problem with cvt transmissions are they are so different in the way they feel it takes a while to get used to them. You have to learn how to get the best out of them and for me I'm getting to that point after 2 years ownership. On balance i would still prefer a good 6 speed tradi...

Re: CVT- Kizashi's Achilles Heel
Your not alone with your opinion, probably the majority of owners with the cvt tranny feel the same way. After two years and 30000 klms I'm used to it, however my biggest concern now is with the cvt reliability or possible lack thereof.

Re: Whinning Noise - CVT?
From what I've read, Hyundai and Kia do local suspension development for the Aussie models as US spec "wallowy" suspension doesn't go down well here. I often see mention of "Euro" and "USA" suspension tunes for a lot of global manufacturers -> with USA = soft , Euro = ...

Re: Whinning Noise - CVT?
I like the look of the Hyundais but I'm not convinced their handling is as good as the better Japanese cars yet and a good handling car is important to me. I don't think the Elantra Sport is available in Aus anyway. I'm already retired so changing cars so soon is also a problem for me but I'm thinki...

Re: Whinning Noise - CVT?
No more cvt's for this guy. I second that. Trouble is more and more cars are using them. I've got another three years to go on my warranty but I've already mentioned to my other half we may need to change cars at the end of the warranty. The new Mazda 3 is at the top of my list. At least it has a t...
