Getting at the FM antenna connection? Radio removal

Going to use this for my XM radio potable I have. I am already using a broadcast adapter, a Griffin I-trip, but as expected the quality is marginal and the reception issues are not really acceptable.

Need to at least get to the back of the radio. I should be able to conceal the rest either in the center console arm rest bin or the compartment under the radio.

Any tips or suggestions highly appreciated.

Thanks, the directions are sparse at best, but give some clues. Looks like the console does not need to come out at all. I am still going to see if I can access the antenna connection from the glovebox first. I need t get a good set of those non-mar tools to work the A/C panel removal. Appears you just noodle the tool in to release the tabs.

Thanks, this sort of conflicts with the Suzuki manual. These stick together cars are great for the assembly line, I just cringe when I have to start unhooking the fragile plastic tabs that hold modern cars together. I will post my "experience". The adapter just came in. I will install the jack in the pocket above the lighter. I like the housing they included for the jack. It will look OK, and it has an on/off switch too.

Radio removal turned out to be easy as pie. Open the storage door, give a sharp yank on the climate control panel and it pops right out easy, one connector plug. There are two big silver phillips screws at the bottom and back of the radio mounting frame, they jump right out at you. Remove those and the radio justs pulls out in your hand.

Now the bad news, the antenna connector is some odd looking 4-5 prong plug affair, not the standard antenna jack I would have expected. So no go on the FM modulator adapter for now. I assume there is some way to get correct adapters to work, but it would need to be something you would have to adapt from the Suzuki oddity into the regular antenna plug, into the FM modulator, then back out to the Suzuki plug. Wonder where those exist?

This is really way to hard to do something that would have been way too easy for the factory to do.

Seems to be the right adapters. If nothing else, I have another couple of gadgets to add to my collection.

Nice!! Glad to hear it wasn't too hard. Look like the adapters you need. When you go to install PLEASE! take photos I want to add to the howto section.

Will do on the pictures, it might be a week or so. You can get to the connector via the glovebox too. That is what I tried first, was afraid of breaking fragile plastic parts. Turns out it was tons easier just pulling the center stack apart.

Will document the connections an placement of the jack too. I think it is going to be placed in the same compartment as the USB jack. It should look near OEM.
