I agree but what should happen vs. what does happen are two different things. People should check their tire pressure before any warning light tells them of low pressure. People should check their motor oil before a red oil lamp light comes on. People should check other things on something that costs thousands of dollars and their safety is dependent on it but many just don't.
Personally, the TPMS system has only come on for my Kizashi when I lost air pressure from punctures. It was helpful in alerting me of slow leaks caused by nails embedded in the tire.
