All wheel drive doesn't make sense ANYWHERE. If you can't get the car going with FWD and good snow tires, then you have no business being on the road. AWD does absolutely nothing for stopping or turning, just helps you get going faster then you can stop or turn. Rear wheel drive was ten times harder to deal with, yet people seemed to survive for the most part.
Yes, I'll admit that I used to quote nonsense like this too. ... But then we started seeing the facts & data come in. Unfortunately, there's not a single statement in this quote that holds true (although it was "more true" in the past before traction & stability control.). http://Www.tinyurl.com/o7vwge9
After reading that article you linked, I maintain that it is you quoting nonsense. The "evidence" used would be laughed out of any high school statistics class. Is it possible that AWD vehicles are mostly bought by crybaby sissies who are less likely to venture into dangerous situations? I exaggerate a bit , but that's certainly a factor that should be taken into account before jumping to any conclusions as this article does.
Remav wrote:I've seen data showing not only 20% advantage on cornering, but even giving awd 5% on stopping. (And "no" I don't know where the 5% comes from. Maybe that time between gas & brake where engine compression is acting on all 4 tires?)
I don't believe that for a second. And judging by the way you instantly started to theorize crazy ideas as to why that would be shows that you sense a problem too.
Remav wrote:But I still do make it a point to tell anyone I hear bragging about the grip their 4x4 gets to remember that it doesn't help you stop any quicker. Funny how many of them seem to have never fully pondered that point.
"There's not a single statement in this quote that holds true" yet you enjoy pointing out the EXACT same point to friends. Are you claiming that the huge land barges with V8's and shitty tires that we drove back in the 60's weren't an order of magnitude harder to drive in the snow? Or are you claiming that I didn't survive it?

Haven't heard that for more years than I'll admit to. That reminds me of the Punch Buggy stuff.

We got our first snow of the the season here in Kansas today, and I flicked a handful of sweet drifts on my way to/from the grocery store to get butter, so my wife could make gingerbread cookies. :drive:

I saw a car that I never saw before...it was so ugly...when I got closer...obviously it was the new 2016 civic. The last few years (since 2012 model) have been rough for the civic in regards to their look. Honda comes out with an uglier version of the CRV and Civic every year...It is pretty bad. I believe they will sell less Civic this year even if they are reliable.

Funny, your to do list looks eerily similar to mine.
Sweet! If you're ever in the Milwaukee area, definitely give me a shout. There's only 3 Kizashis that I've seen around here. I can also show you how to do your tpms relearn for free. 8-)
Thanks. I think I've read through your entire thread twice by now, so hopefully I'll be able to figure it out when the time comes in spring, but if not, I'll definitely take you up on that. I have yet to see another Kizashi in this area.
I'll be doing the relearn on our twin of your car in the spring too, so feel free to reach out. 8-)
