Ate lunch under the open sunroof in my 100,000+ mile Kiz that I've owned for 10 years.

142,500 mile service interval...oil change and tire rotation...eazy peazy! Also recently installed new rear shocks. Was some rust on shaft, probably from prior to the new revised bump stops being installed by the recall. Fast forward all those years and those same revised bump stops are now pretty deteriorated, so got new ones of those as well. Rear anti sway bar bushings just showed up, will put those on next.

Today I repaired deer damage for a friend of mine. He didn’t have comprehensive insurance and the car would have been considered a total loss due to the high cost and scarcity of front end parts. The front bumper cover was ripped from headlight to fog light. The fog light was broken. The hood corner was bent the headlight was gone and the right fender had a section missing as well has the mounting tab for the front cover. Time for some mending.Image
I broke out my new plastic repair unit and hot stapled the rip. The tool is pretty cool Image
This method of repair alone is nice for an unstressed area but not here. Another piece of plastic from another bumper cover could be melted in on the back side but I like stitchingImage
This cover is over $800 retail before painting so it must be saved.Image
Time for the stitches using zip ties . Red ones can be had but may bleach out and he’s ok with the bold look anyway Image
Here is the finished product after replacing the headlight , fender in color, and right side marker. Straighten hood and touch up paintImage
Not really pleased with the screw mounting the side of the cover on but it was getting late and it probably could be covered with a red cap of some sort. Another Kizashi pulled from the clutches of death.

That's what I call a Ki"scar"shi.
But honestly, looks like a high quality stitch. Looks badass, like scarface or something.

I wonder how well the stitches would blend in on a black Kizashi... :drive:

Thanks for the compliments guys and on the black bumper, I’d be torn between using black or grey zip ties. On a white car, I’m pretty sure black is best here is a picture of a white one I did a year ago. Image
The cover was ripped top to bottom. Rears are easy and cheap to get here but I’m sure not everywhere .The front cover is impossible to find inexpensive and good shape. I save even damaged front covers to use for pieces.

Snuck in to hang out with the preppy kids at an MLM event ;)

3rd car from the left is a Genesis. All of the rest of them besides that one and Azumi are Mercedes Benz.

Finally changed the coolant from the original factory fill. At 107,000 miles, the car was overdue but I procrastinated because it's a long and tedious process to drain, flush (multiple times), and refill. What's great about the Kizashi is that you can change the coolant without getting under the car at all. In fact, you don't even need to raise it up with a ramp or stands. The radiator draincock is located near the middle of the radiator and is easy to access. It also drains straight down through a passage in the frame.
After draining out the original coolant, I used Blue Devil Radiator Flush for a deep cleaning. Many flush products state you can either run it for 10 mins in idle with the heater on full or even drive with it for over a few days. I typically go for a short drive and did so this time. However, for the first time ever with any car, the car overheated while I was driving with the flush cleaner. The ambient temp was over 90 F so it was a hot day. I was on a stretch of highway so I pulled over shortly after the temp needle got into the lower red zone. I then turned off the car and let it cool for 15 or so minutes. The coolant in the overflow was boiling over and was a blackish water.
After it cooled down a bit, I drove slowly back home, avoiding higher revs as the engine was still overheating, especially going on inclines.
When I drained it, the coolant was a dark black color but not oily at all. Imagine like grape-flavored Gatorade.
After flushing a few times with water in the driveway and seeing the drain water look rather clear, I filled with Pentosin A3 Super Blue 50/50 Premix and bled the system of air bubbles (did so at each step).
The Kizashi has been running perfectly since and has not overheated. I'm also glad I took the precautions and let the engine cool when it overheated during the flush because there is no indication of damage to the engine.
I guess I won't be driving with a flush in the system anymore as it seemed to greatly compromise the proper cooling of the system.

Speaking of fluids, Kuro, are you still using that Amazon brand synthetic engine oil? How’s that holding up? I remember reading reviews on it when I first wanted to change my oil, and noted a few users complaining about the lack of a window into the jug that lets you know how much oil is left inside. Sounds like it’d be a little more difficult to keep track of how much you’re pouring, which is important since the Kizashi doesn’t consume the entire jug.
I’m due for an oil change soon. Actually should have done it at least a month ago. Good thing I put a decent filter in and don’t put many miles on my car .
