Hi,

Does anyone know where I can buy a set of OEM front rotors and pads? Also what are the OEM part numbers?

The dealership is quoting an astronomical price for the set so I'm just wondering if I can get them elsewhere (has to be able to ship to Australia).

Cheers

Does it have to be OEM - what sort of price are they asking?

You can get bits off Ebay eg
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DRILLED-SLOT ... 1c3d9327be
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-Kizas ... 1c3eec0d2d

They're both made by RDA.

I'm using the same design RDA dimpled / slotted rotors on the front of my XL-7 and they're working very well with QFM pads. The previous plain DBA "kangaroo paw" rotors warped  with the same model QFM pads. I won't be touching them again (a friend had two sets of DBA "bottom of the range" rotors warp as well - on a 4 cylinder Camry and AU Falcon ute.)

QFM HPX - Part Number QDB1946 HPX should be the correct fit (or NDB8469 - there's some conflicting info on the internet....they're the same pad as the front of a T31 XTrail). They're a very good pad for the $$$. http://qfm.com.au/page/6/Performance_Range

http://www.bendix.com.au/catalogue/228514# - DB1946 Kizashi
same as
http://www.bendix.com.au/catalogue/9553# - DB1946 Xtrail
QFM list NDB8469 as fitting T31 Xtrail ;)
http://qfm.com.au/page/11/Members_Area? ... ont=&rear=

(Previous info I found from a Nissan Xtrail forum suggested the QFM part number was QDB1946)

Thanks for the reply; I'll probably end up getting the cheaper RDA rotors from ebay. The pads are still good but the rotors are warped as the dealer hasn't skimmed them properly and I keep getting vibrations through the steering while braking (it's been over 6 months since the skimming and the vibrations during braking haven't gone away).

I might just end up just replacing the rotors for now and pads later on...

Is there a DIY on replacing the Kizashi's front brakes?

Modern day rotors are no longer serviceable by machining. There's no extra material there to take away to true them up. If you do, they'll instantly fall below the minimum safe thickness spec and heat up quicker, causing them to warp again pretty much instantly. Fuel economy measures to reduce weight. Learned this in 1996 on a Dodge stratus...I've never been hard on brakes and that car started vibrating at 20,000 miles and it was a manual trans on top of it. They said there's no machining them, only replacing. I said BS, so they showed me this fact in a service manual. This is how the manufactures make the fuel economy requirements...it sucks and over time costs owners more money.

According to this site the fronts start at 26mm and minimum thickness is 24mm http://www.jcwhitney.com/2010-2012-suzu ... 012j1.jcwx

Often it's a case of pad material being left on the surface rather than warping, so not much machining is required. http://www.mossmotors.com/sitegraphics/ ... discs.html

So just to confirm, should I get the following:

DISCS:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-Kizas ... b38&_uhb=1

PADS:
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-Kizas ... 488&_uhb=1

Those should work well together, right?

They're Protex brand brake discs- they might be okay, I've never heard anything about them.

The pads are bottom rung Bendix. Probably not as good as the OEM Akebono and you've obviously had problems with them not performing well enough.

With the two I'd be thinking you'd be downgrading, rather than improving the brake system?

I'd suggest contacting these guys http://gslrallysport.com/au/ - they sell RDA rotors, plus QFM brake pads (and other brands.) They're very helpful, just Email or phone them. PS: let them know the Kizashi front pads are the same fitment as a T31 Nissan Xtrail as that will give more pad options.

Hmm this seems harder than I thought..

So what's the part/model number that I have to get that will suit the Kizashi (pads and discs)?

Also, which ones did you end up getting?

Mine are still OEM.

I am using the RDA dimpled/ slotted rotors with QFM 4WD pads (same as the HPX compound I've been told) on my Suzuki XL-7. They've been on for the best part of a year after the previous DBA rotors warped with the same model QFM pads. They do pull up very well - it weighs about 350kg more than the Kizashi and only has 10mm larger diameter front rotors.

If I was doing my Kizashi I'd go for the RDA dimpled/ slotted rotors RDA8126D like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/DRILLED-SLOT ... 1c3d9327be (or you could opt for the plain RDA rotors RDA8126 like this http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Suzuki-Kizas ... 1c3eec0d2d ).

For pads, the QFM HPX get great reviews for performance and are low dust. They're also cheap compared to a lot of equivalent pads (should be around $100). Bendix Kizashi fitment is DB1946 which matches up with QFM fitment NDB8469 (old part number appeared to be QDB1946.)

Drop that GSL Rallysport an Email or phone them (or fill out the quote form on their site.) I've bought pads off them in the past and I'm sure they'll be able to help with suggestions - or supply the above mentioned parts. They sell RDA, QFM, EBC, Bendix, DBA, Ferodo etc. They respond quickly to Emails.

PS: From the problems you've experienced it sounds like it would be wise to buy something a bit better than bottom range components. I wouldn't touch those Bendix GCT pads. eg. here's something a quick google found on a Ford Forum:
I am using QFM HPX pads on both my EF (1-piston) and AU2 (2-piston) XR6s, and they are excellent. Great initial bite, no squeal, negligible dust, and reasonable price. If you tend to do a lot of hard braking you could upgrade to their A1RM compound.

I went from an EBC Redstuff/Greenstuff combo on DBA slotted rotors on my EF to the HPX, and the improvement was dramatic. Some of that would be going from worn pads to new, for sure. But I would never go back. And the QFM HPX is half the price of EBC. Got them from GSL Rallysport. http://www.gslrallysport.com/

I upgraded my AU2 XR6 from Bendix GCT to QFM HPX, and the stopping distance decreased by 20-30%. The Bendix pads and stock rotors were brand new when I bought the car, so I was comparing new with new, and there is no contest. GCT's are for geriatrics in Hyundais. Go with QFM - you won't be disappointed.

Thanks for that info, I really appreciate it.

I'll have a look at those links (probably e-mail those guys as well) and decide which ones to get.
