I was replacing a lower splash shield due to road debris damage when I noticed this:

It looks like a leak between the transmission and motor housing. I'll be bringing it in to the dealer tomorrow!

Which shield is that? If it's the passenger side one that remains in place after removing the one to expose the engine oil drain plug, then it's likely residue from oil changes. When the filter is removed, the oil can run down the block, land on that particular shield and pool towards the rear of the one that remains in place. I always clean mine off before reinstalling the one that gets removed for the oil drain.

This is actually the drivers side. You can see the inner CV joint connecting. I thought the same too, but the oil fill and filter is on the other side. At the dealer now waiting diagnosis.

Yes, we call it the oil pan but we are talking about the oil sump.

prob from oil changes...ive had pools of oil since I've owned mine. took mine back after last oil change, oil was leaking from the filter, not enough to show i was low on oil but it totally soaked it underneath. dirt gets mashed in between the filter gasket and engine from oil changes due to the location of the filter.

===============================

In the dark old days when I used to change oil myself, I was more than aware that the sump plug had to be put back with the utmost care. If a bit of swarf gets caught in the thread, this will cause a leak. The worst scenario is cross threading the sump plug, and that really does cost time and money.
