FYI: brighter H9 bulbs for fog lights
PIAA recommended a similar setup for the Altima using their 'ion crystal' h3 in the fogs. Results? Best lighting setup for rain, clear nights, and fog.KuroNekko wrote:TRS calls it "Golden Yellow". 3000K and 3000 lumens.
The fogs illuminate the immediate front and the sides of the road very well. It's great for dark rainy nights or drives on dark rural roads.
Yellow fogs are popular in the JDM even as factory so the JDM-focused tuning scene in the US also adopted the look. I personally always liked it so was glad when my car had it from the previous owner. That being said, the old bulbs sucked and these Morimotos give off a better color and more usable light.
I always wanted the PIAA Ion Crystals in my Impreza, but had a hard time justifying the cost so I never got them. After trying out HIDs, I decided to not bother with overpriced halogens like PIAA, etc. That being said, as much as I like my HID fogs, I think they are too bright for heavy fog use and would create too much glare. I don't care right now because I live in an area with little to no fog. However, I think this is a real concern in heavy fog areas like where I used to live in CA and probably why OEMs don't use HIDs in fog lights.SamirD wrote:PIAA recommended a similar setup for the Altima using their 'ion crystal' h3 in the fogs. I found them on sale when I got them, so they were a good deal. The resulting light output was similar to a factory JDM yellow fog like on the IS300. I really like them.KuroNekko wrote:I always wanted the PIAA Ion Crystals in my Impreza, but had a hard time justifying the cost so I never got them. Sorry it took this long.bootymac wrote:Looks great! Any pictures of the beam output on the road or against a wall?
This is what they currently look like as Morimoto 3000K HID bulbs with my old low beam ballasts. Sorry that the picture isn't too clear, but this photo mode gave the most accurate color depiction compared to reality.
As a reference, below is just the low beams with no fog lights on.
