About time. The odd thing is that these cars were offered with available AWD in the JDM for years. In fact, you can get a Mazda6 wagon with AWD and a manual transmission with a diesel engine in other countries. Hence, it's not like Mazda6 hasn't tried different drivetrains with these models before. It's just they've not considered it for the USDM with the more recent generations. Mazda did have the Mazdaspeed6 a while back which was an AWD turbo, but it wasn't nearly as good as the WRX, Evo, etc. However, given the tremendous growth of Subaru in the recent years, I think everyone is trying to adopt their recipe which includes turbos and AWD. If Mazda is to return with AWD (plus a new turbo) in the 6, hopefully it's a much better car than the last Speed6 which was half-baked and unreliable.
