
Interesting info on tweeter placement. I always thought the 2-way/3-way speakers put the tweeter in the middle more for cost savings than proper sound design.
True that you don't really need a rear sound stage when the sound is in front of you, but on recordings where the imaging is supposed to surround you, or even when comparing with cars that have a more equal sound stage for the front and rear, the system just sounds off-balance.
What I hear is everything up front with a wide stage like you've mentioned. Even if I fade to the back, it is hard to get the stage to go past the rear of the seat. It's like there's no stage in the rear at all. I haven't sat in the back enough to remember the staging back there, but I'm beginning to think it's gotta sound terrible.
