Any reason you haven't shared where this value is coming up? You also haven't said if this is retail, wholesale, trade in, dealer or private party. But like the rest, it's worth way more than that. I'm sure there's a few on the forum here who'd give you double that. I will.

I just had a Honda dealer offer me $3K for my 2013 w/ 30K!

Carmax offered me $5K.

It's a shame really.

With something like a manual Kizashi, you can't trade-in. All dealers will give you nothing for it despite the features and positive attributes of the car. They'll value a Yaris or a Fit of the same model year and mileage for much more.
When it's time for me to move on from my Kizashi, I'll first see if a family member, friend, co-worker, etc. is interested in the car. If not, then I'd sell it myself on Craigslist. It can be time-consuming but you'll get more money from people actually interested in the car rather than some chump in a dealership giving you a low-ball figure as if it's some charity for your worthless garbage. I sold my former Mazda3 to a woman on Craigslist for 3x the value the dealership gave me when I got the Kizashi. As for my Kizashi, I'll likely keep it long enough until my nephews are of driving age and then see if they are interested in it as a first car. Given the excellent safety of the Kizashi, it would be a good first car.

IMNSHO&E the Kizashi is a private-sale car.

Except I traded my old one in and bought the newer used one from a dealer (a Dodge dealer).
I am complicated.....

Now that my daughter is graduating and has secured a job, I would loved to have purchased a nice 2012-2013 low-mileage one for her for the kinds of prices they're going for, or give her mine. Problem is where she's headed there are no ex-Suzuki dealers in case the need arises (and she really, really wanted a small SUV). It's truly a shame...solid, reliable, safe cars.

During my used search I came across a really sweet 2014 Mazda6 in off a lease. If I hadn't had the Kiz, I'd have bought that puppy for myself. NICE car. She really wanted an SUV, so what the hell, she's worked extremely hard the last 6 years and has lived like a pauper all while driving that POS Alero around, she deserves it. And now, she can afford it!

We ended up w/ a 2016 AWD RAV4 LE. The 0% financing this month really sealed the deal on it over anything else in its class. At the end of the day, 2 yr. old 20k mile Certified Used SUVs were not too much cheaper than the deal I'd made on a brand new one w/ a $750 grad rebate, factory 6yr/75k extended B2B warranty and 2 yr/24k scheduled maintenance included. Daughter's happy she got her SUV and dad's happy she got reliable warrantied transportation for a change.

Dealer lots around here are literally choked full of cars...hell, I couldn't even find a place to park at most dealers I went to in the past 2-3 weeks, new or used. Excellent time for negotiating. Once we decided on the RAV4, I actually had fun for a change pitting them all against each other. Most dealers had roughly 10 identically priced AWD LEs on their lots so it was fun playing my games for a change. They still like to try and play their games.

Well I was just offered $7K trade towards a 2014 Mazda6. I'm torn.

7k is still horrible. MT and no AWD...maybe that's really all they're worth. I suppose the added value of the 2k delta depends upon what the price of the 6 you're looking at is.
This is the Sport I looked at and drove: http://www.tommasano.com/detail-2014-ma ... 19090.html

Of course, now the "web special" price is a bigger number than when I drove it at their Mazda dealer a week ago. Always playing games these guys....

The Kizashi is a great car with horrible resale value. If you own it, it makes the best sense to drive it as long as you can. Financially, trading it in for a considerable depreciation loss for a comparable car makes little sense. I like the Mazda6 and consider it one of the best family midsizes you can buy. However, it's really not significantly better than the Kizashi. They are both midsize-segment 4 doors powered by 4 cylinder engines with available manual transmissions powering the front wheels. If you have an AWD Kizashi, a Mazda6 is not really equatable given it's only available in FWD. A Subaru Legacy is really the main rival to an AWD Kizashi given the comparable engines and transmissions. While the Mazda6 is considerably more fuel efficient than the Kizashi given the newer SkyActiv engine technology, it will take many years of ownership for the Mazda6 to save you money over the Kizashi given the significant difference in vehicle cost. Basically, if one trades in the Kizashi for $7000 and then pays another $10,000 for the Mazda6, it would mean that the Mazda6 had to be $10,000 more valuable in one's mind to justify getting it. To me, a 2014 Mazda6 is no way 10 grand more valuable than a 2013 Kizashi given the cars are technically way too similar to command such a price difference unless there is a huge difference in mileage (unlikely for cars that are 1 model year apart).
Maybe my views are skewed a bit given I fully own my nicely-equipped GTS Sport, but I really don't think it's financially wise to let go of the technically-good Kizashi for something rather similar but in price. To me, it would only make sense to depart from the Kizashi if you're getting a vehicle that's significantly different like a sports car, luxury car, truck, or SUV if the model years and mileage are comparable.

That...or....something's wrong with the Kiz and it needs to go away. Much like my 04 Rubicon did and how I came to own the Kizashi in the first place. Other than these things, I'd agree and do not think your view is skewed at all Kuro and also find the 6 an equal to the Kiz sans the AWD. Personally I'd never give up my Kizashi for the insulting dollars dealers would offer. I'm a truck / body on frame SUV kinda guy, always have been, and I absolutely love my Kizashi and miss it terribly anytime I don't drive it for extended periods. The Mazda6 is considerably longer in the snout than a Kiz btw.
