So I'm getting ready to change the oil in Azumi, and I have an unopened 5 QT jug of Castrol GTX 5W-30 conventional oil that's been sitting in my basement/storage closet for a couple years now...

It should still be ok to use right?

I purchased the oil when my PoS Subaru was eating oil, and I overreacted when I went out to get some extra oil for it.

I'd personally use it as it was in a sealed container and 2 years isn't too long.

I always figured it's been in the ground for how long? A couple years on the shelf is no biggie.

Yeah, that's a good point. I was a little suspicious that refining it to motor oil would some how undo that. I'm kind of a noob at car stuff, and I tend to carried away when I start second guessing things.

Well, technically, up to 5 years is about where experts say it's safe to use. This is because if it sits too long, the additives can separate from the oil. However, if it's in a sealed container and out of the sunlight and heat, it should be fine up to 5 years.

Or put them on the shelf replacing the old oil and you're set for the next change.

That's ok, I want my $26 back, and it's just more stuff that I gotta haul when I probably move out next spring.
